We visit to Zhengnian "farm" (Ecovillage) 正念生態村 in the Shimen 石門 area of northern Taiwan on October 18th. Zhengnian 正念生態村 is a newly born "ecovillage" with a community of the two founders Wuwei 無為 (Denilee Li) and his partner Ssi Ying 思瑩 (Ssu Ying Lin). There are no buildings, no electricity and no roads in the village. The founders aspire to get others involved in the project. Wuwei answered many questions and talked about his background, the history of the project and future plans. They have a simple set of principles that they would like people to adhere to when on the property. The nine people who went were the largest group of people they have welcomed to the place since they started managing the site in early September. They worked on an adjacent site in partnership with another person and community for a few years prior. They had some basic differences with the objectives of that project and decided to work on their own, although they have maintained good relations with the former partner and community. In the future, they will hold more events/workshops at the site with a limited number of participants (no more than 12) each time. We share a meal cooked outside with them and help prepare beds and plant before we retreat from light rain.
