Little Egret 小白鷺 (xiǎo báilù) Egretta garzetta -- single birds here and there. Maybe six or so in total
A couple of intermediate-sized egrets; not sure which species. Six or so
Great Egret 大白鷺 (dà báilù) Egretta alba -- maybe three in the entire wetlands
Green-winged Teal 小水鴨 (xiǎo shuǐ yā) Anas crecca -- about 60+ birds, all female as far as I could tell
Black Kite 黑鳶 (hēi yuān) Milvus migrans -- see two soaring at one time, and several individuals along at various times. So maybe only two total
Accipiter sp. -- not sure which. Watched it soar for awhile; later one snatched a sparrow right in front of us nest to the pond where you park under the trestle
Moorhen 紅冠水雞 (guānshuǐ jī) Gallinula chloropus -- see one mixed in with the teals
Tringa sp. -- perched too far to see clearly
Rufous Turtle Dove 金背鳩 (jīn bèi jiū) Streptopelia orientalis -- several individuals and one pair in the forest edge and on the wires
Common Kingfisher 翠鳥 (cuì niǎo) Alcedo atthis -- scare one off when we first come up
Taiwan Bulbul 五色鳥 (wǔsè niǎo) Megalaima nuchalis -- hear one in the nearby forest
Barn Swallow 家燕 (jiāyàn) Hirundo rustica -- a few flying around
Wagtail flew by; not sure which
Chinese Bulbul 白頭翁 (báitóuwēng) Pycnonotus sinensis -- a few
Shrike Lanius sp. -- one perched in picture
Streak-breasted Scimitar Babbler 小彎嘴 (xiǎo wān zuǐ) Pomatorhinus ruficollis -- hear from the nearby woods
Tawny-flanked prinia 褐頭鷦鶯 (hè tóu jiāo yīng) Prinia subflava -- two or three individuals; one singing on a stickup
Tree Sparrow 麻雀 (máquè) Passer montanus -- several flocks of 40+ birds each; hanging onto weeds sticking out of the rice paddies
Magpie 喜鵲 (xǐquè) Pica pica -- one on recently tilled bed
